Mockford Farms, Limpopo Farmer of the Year, at the AWSA National Awards 2022

Some of South Africa’s top contributors to agriculture were recognised at the 2022 Agricultural Writers SA (AWSA) Awards on Friday, 11 November 2022 at NAMPO Park in Bothaville. The annual event salutes those that work hard to promote sustainable farming enterprises, elevate food security, support rural economies, and nurture the image of agriculture in South Africa. The Farmer of the Year nominees are pictured above (from left to right): Cas Joubert, Danie Bester, Shaun Mockford, Andrew Masterson, with Liza Bohlman, chair of the AWSA.

Mockford Farms was nominated by Magda du Toit and received the award of Limpopo Farmer of the Year at the AWSA North awards in August 2022. Unfortunately, this multi-award winner of Breeder of the Year by the Pig Breeders’ Society of South Africa missed out on the title of national Farmer of the Year 2022 to ALS Group, Agri-division.

We wish ALS Group, Agri-division a hearty congratulations on the win and commend Mockford Farms for the outstanding contribution that they are making to the pig and pork industry, as well as sustainable farming in South Africa.

The AWSA Farmer of the Year 2022: Cas Joubert and his sons from ALS Group, Agri-division receive their award from Liza Bohlman, chair of the AWSA, and Dawie Maree of FNB.

The South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) coordinates industry interventions and collaboratively manages risks in the value chain to enable the sustainability and profitability of pork producers in South Africa.
