During 2022, the Research and Development Committee of the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) supported five projects for post-graduate studies, two literature surveys, and a once-off study into the retail of pork. The committee also formulated a standard operating procedure document, as well as a new application form. A new chairperson and administrative members have been added to the committee.
In 2023, the Research and Development Committee aims to focus on shorter-term projects and on generating information that is helpful to pork producers and the value chain. Consumer behaviour and perceptions have been added as a focus area and, as such, the committee hopes to assist in driving the demand for pork in South Africa.
