Christian Zimelka: Consultant

Christian Zimelka’s primary function at SAPPO is to strategically steer the SAPPO brand successfully through 2019 and into the future. He heads up the strategic division at UPPE Marketing. He is responsible for building client relationships and overseeing major brand development engagements. In 2017 – 2018, Christian together with his UPPE team developed the new brand identity and visual language for SAPPO.

He has also successfully led brand and marketing strategy engagements for clients such as Kynoch Fertillizers, Ceva Animal Health, Café Nescafé, Telkom, BASF, Springbok Rugby, Plaaskem and South African Breweries. His experience across a variety of industries including agricultural brands, consumer electronics, transportation, manufacturing, financial services, sport, real estate, animal healthcare, and retails allows him to bring a unique and dynamic perspective to clients who seek to develop deeper relationships with their customers.

Christian continues to not only grow his own brand expertise, but that of others through guest lectures, workshops, mentorship programmes and brand courses for SAPPO, as well as companies such as Cell C, First National Bank, the Department of Education, the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) , SAB Miller, Tiger Brands and BASF.

Nico Scheltema: Permanent staff

Nico Scheltema will join SAPPO in January is the new business intelligence manager. He will develop and maintain the organisation’s business intelligence system and provide insight to influence the organisation’s objectives, strategies and future direction. He has extensive experience in conducting analytical research at the Integrated Value Information System (IVIS) and a senior market and business analyst at the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP).

Nico says he is excited to join the SAPPO business intelligence team and to contribute to the well being of the South African pork industry. He studied at the University of Pretoria where he first fell in love with economics and then later with his lovely wife Cara. In his spare time he enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with family.
