The Recreation Africa Group (Misty Hills Country Hotel Conference Centre & Spa and Kedar Heritage Lodge) in conjunction with SAPPO invited three schools from the Rustenburg area to a tree planting ceremony. The aim was to educate young people about the importance of conserving the environment and to preserving the country’s history for future generations.
SAPPO’s AGM and conference took place at Misty Hills in September, and for every ten delegates who attend a conference at either of the Recreation Africa venues, a tree is planted. The tree-planting ceremony at Kedar Heritage Lodge was attended by learners from three schools in the area, Lebone II College of the Royal Bafakeng, Laerskool Rustenburg and the Mathalware School. The learners received short presentations on the importance of preserving the environment and being water wise before the digging started. A total of 78 tree were planted.
Kedar is situated on the Bohenhoutfonetein farm (outside Rustenburg in North West), which was once owned by Paul Kruger. The property was acquired by the Recreation Africa Group some 30 years ago and has since been restored to its former glory. It is now home to the Kedar Heritage Lodge, Conference Centre & Spa and the Paul Kruger Country House Museum.
After the tree planting ceremony, the learners were treated to lunch followed by a museum tour of the Paul Kruger Museum.
