The team at SA Pork curiously ventured back into the realm of live expos and events post-COVID, choosing the Mzansi Fire & Feast Festival as their testing ground. This festival, a cornerstone of the Mzansi Food & Drink Show, was held from 15 to 17 June at the Kyalami International Convention Centre. It celebrated all things meat, particularly braai culture, with a plethora of competitions and activities designed to delight braai enthusiasts and foodies alike.

Renowned chefs, braai masters, butchers, and industry experts showcased their skills, sharing knowledge and experience with attendees.
Competitions
- Participants showcased their braai prowess to be crowned King of the Braai.
- The Butcher’s Block Challenge highlighted the art of butchery.
- Teams competed to create the best smoked meats in the Meat Smoke-Off Competition.
- The Ring of Fire Chilli Festival featured challenges like the Ring of Fire National Pod Challenge, Hot Wings Challenge, Best Sauce Challenge, and Hot Chip Challenge.
Food and drink delights
A wide array of braai delicacies, sauces, spices, rubs, and marinades were available.
SA Pork teamed up with Roots Butcheries to promote pork to the festival visitors. Roots made a remarkable impact with their dedicated braai section, where visitors indulged in mouth-watering pork and beef espetadas. Additionally, they set up a comprehensive store offering a variety of butchery products, including fresh pork cuts. Special thanks go to the management at Roots for their visionary approach, ensuring a significant presence that greatly contributed to the event’s overall success.
Although this year’s Mzansi Fire & Feast Festival didn’t attract as many attendees as anticipated, it was still filled with a festive atmosphere, enhanced by the enticing aroma of meats sizzling on numerous braais.
