IPVS 2022
The specialisation in veterinary medicine and the increase in the importance of swine production demand the cooperation of veterinary professionals from all over the world. The International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) was founded with this objective and with the purpose to promote biannual meetings where the world’s leading experts in health, animal welfare, nutrition and reproduction could come together to discuss the studies developed by the international scientific community. Since the first conference was held in Cambridge, England in 1969, more than 40 000 people have had the opportunity to participate in IPVS congresses, with the presentation of more than 13 000 scientific papers.
The 26th IPVS Congress recently took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was well-attended by a large South African delegation, including Pierre Smith from Virbac. Pig farming in Brazil has undergone major transformations in recent years, and it is currently fourth-largest producer and exporter of pigs in the world.
