SAPPO farmer David Osborne of Number Two Piggeries gives us an inside look and takes us behind the scenes of what it takes to be a farmer who produces pork.
Many misconceptions about farming often stem from misinformation. Today, there are fewer farmers producing more food for a fast-growing global population than ever before, as they navigate the complexities of modern farming practices while trying to ensure food security. Farmers are making the best use of the land and resources possible, while increasing production and looking out for the welfare of their animals. This is made possible by using exponential technologies, like AgriTech, reducing food waste across the entire value chain, and reusing by-products in a sustainable manner while supporting surrounding communities. “They mustn’t see us as the enemy of the planet. We are improving what we start with and what we end up with,” says SAPPO farmer David Osborne, chief executive officer of Number Two Piggeries.
SAPPO is contributing to making agriculture more environmentally friendly, sustainable, and future-looking by working alongside farmers who produce pork across southern Africa.
