In season 3 of SAPPO Selekt, ordinary South Africans from all walks of life were asked questions about agriculture and the food chain to see how much they know about what they eat and where it comes from.
This season features candid answers from children, young adults, former civil servants, industry stakeholders, and farmers. Some of their answers were serious, others were silly, many erupted into hearty laughter; yet, they showed that several misconceptions continue to prevail, even in the information age.
SAPPO’s aim is to empower the general public with easy-to-understand, factual information in a light-hearted manner on topics that relate to farming – animal welfare, traceability, biosecurity, food safety, environmentalism, and sustainability. We spoke to people from all ages and all walks of life to better understand the generational and socio-economic play in the context of the sustainability debate. Each episode will highlight the average person’s perception around one of these issues, and then answer questions with the help of experts in the field in order to encourage healthy debate and spark important conversations about the future of food.
Sustainability asks for difficult questions, but these conversations must entice action. Watch Season 3 of SAPPO Selekt and join the conversation as we demystify misconceptions with the help of experts in the agricultural sector and industry, and a touch of humour.
SAPPO is contributing to making agriculture more environmentally friendly, sustainable and future-focused by working alongside farmers who produce pork across southern Africa.
