The Animal Movement Logger is a tool that allows South African pig producers to log the movements of pigs between their own units, to other producers, and to abattoirs. The South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) has invested in this tool to strengthen the pork industry’s ability to provide an assurance to consumers and export partners that South African pork products are safe to eat, have been produced in an ethical manner, and that products can be traced throughout the food chain. The tool will also assist in protecting current pork exports, valued at R400 million to countries in southern Africa, Asia, and Europe, and potentially facilitate new trade relationships in the future.
How it works
Producers and members of their teams can log movements between production units, other producers, and abattoirs by signing into their World of Pork accounts and selecting the Animal Movement menu and then the Animal Movement Logger. Once in, a user can simply create a new movement log by selecting Create New Movement, completing the three required steps, and then submitting a movement. Businesses that are receiving animals will also be able to view these movements by signing into their own World of Pork accounts and selecting the Animal Movement menu and then the Animal Movement Logger.
