TLU SA is grateful for the SAPS’ transparency in disclosing the country’s crime figures, but according to Mr. Henry Geldenhuys, TLU SA President, urgent action is now needed.
The crime figures – for the quarter October-December 2021 – as announced by the Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele show 11 farm murders.
“It is positive that the figures show a decrease in murder, although one murder committed is one murder too many. TLU SA’s figures show that there were 12 farm murders compared to 11 of the police’s figures. We work strictly according to case numbers.
However, the focus now must be on getting this figure lower with a real effort. The police’s Rural Safety Strategy is a good plan, but it seems as if it not been implemented anywhere and for that reason we want and will have to work with the police and other organisations to ensure that the plan is implemented at grassroots level,” said Mr. Geldenhuys.
