Agri SA and Stellenbosch University’s (SU) Faculty of AgriSciences hosted a colloquium to facilitate important discussions among agricultural role players, academics and research institutions. More than 70 agriculture-leaders and researchers took part. This event forms part of Agri SA’s sustained strategic focus on strengthening cooperation between agriculture faculties and the industry
“The colloquium offers a platform for cultivating mutual understanding of challenges and expectations in the industry,” said Dr Pieter Prinsloo, chair of the Agri SA Commodity Chamber. “The research landscape is divided and the faculties of agriculture as well as the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) have limited resources to their disposal.”
“Cooperation is critical,” said Professor Danie Brink, dean of the SU Faculty of AgriSciences. “The sector is dependent on the knowledge of and research conducted by academic institutions, while these institutions rely on the sector to remain sustainable and relevant.”
Agri SA will continue to play a coordinating role in building relationships between core role players and academia.
The South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) coordinates industry interventions and collaboratively manages risks in the value chain to enable the sustainability and profitability of pork producers in South Africa.
