Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says USDA will make up to 500-million dollars available in grants to assist rural health care.
Vilsack made the announcement at a St. Peter, Minnesota hospital following a tour of drought-impacted fields. He says the Emergency Rural Health Care Grants will help rural hospitals and local communities increase access to COVID-19 vaccines and testing, medical supplies, telehealth, and food assistance, and support the construction or renovation of rural health care facilities.
Vilsack says he hopes local health care leaders use the grants to expand services including telehealth, electronic health data sharing, paramedicine, farmworker health care, and behavioral health services. USDA says grant applications will be accepted until funding runs out.
