SA Pork is proud to support Planet Savers in their inspiring mission to nourish vulnerable communities through their Botshabelo Soup Kitchen project.
Through a partnership with Lynca Meats, SAPPO is supplying Planet Savers with quality pork – helping to close a critical nutritional gap. The soup kitchen currently serves 200 to 250 children and pensioners every day, providing around 4200 meals per week – that’s nearly 17000 meals per month.
Until now, these meals have lacked a vital component: protein. That’s where SAPPO comes in – by providing South African commercially produced high-quality pork as a rich and affordable protein source, we’re helping Planet Savers work toward their goal of including one to two protein-rich meals per day for every beneficiary.
To ensure full transparency and effectiveness, Planet Savers will share monthly monitoring and evaluation (M&E) reports. These will cover:
- weekly and monthly meal counts and distribution;
- number of people fed;
- the nutritional impact of adding pork to the meals; and
- long-term outcomes of the programme.
In addition, Planet Savers plans to roll out nutritional education programmes in the community, promoting long-term health and helping families make informed, sustainable food choices. Naturally, this includes promoting the intrinsic value of pork. They will also introduce nutritional education programmes to equip families with the knowledge and confidence to make healthier, sustainable food choices — with pork naturally highlighted as a delicious and valuable source of protein.
This collaboration is a powerful example of how the pork industry can make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Together, we’re not just feeding bodies — we’re nourishing hope.
