What is on the consumer’s mind?

Various topics were placed in the spotlight at the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa’s annual summit last week. Of the points raised include:
• What must be done from the government’s side to make access to the retail environment easier.
•  A better understanding, evaluation of the value of data is needed to understand the consumer better.
• The revitalisation of the township economy in South Africa can create sustainable jobs, reduce inequality, and address the current poverty and inequality.
• Sustainable job creation is important.
• e-Commerce will be an enabler for economic growth post-Covid-19.
• Customer service is key to ensure consumer loyalty.
• Closer contact between retailers and suppliers are necessary to produce resilient data in the supply chain.
• Understanding data is a business function. It needs to be championed at an executive level and instilled into an organisation’s culture.
• Identifiers and common language are important factors that underpin the integration of quality data.
• Good quality products at affordable prices are crucial.
