The 28th SAMIC Carcass Competition took place this year, and in collaboration with SAPPO, the competition once again highlighted the very best in South African pork production. Over nearly three decades, this prestigious event has grown into a benchmark of quality, rewarding excellence and encouraging producers to align with evolving market demands. It not only celebrates achievement but also provides a valuable platform for learning, growth, and knowledge-sharing across the industry.
The awards ceremony, held on 18 September in Pretoria, brought together producers, industry stakeholders, and partners to recognise outstanding contributions to quality pork production. This year’s winners were Berno Hambrock, PRT Boerdery, Niemen Stud, Mandla Nkosi, T Tjale, RK Boerdery, and Hazeley Top – a diverse group of producers who all exemplify dedication, skill, and innovation in their farming practices.
Speaking to the essence of the competition, the event underscored why it remains such an important fixture on the agricultural calendar: It provides producers with the opportunity to showcase their expertise, benchmark their practices against national standards, and receive recognition for their commitment to excellence. As one of the most anticipated industry competitions, it fosters a spirit of healthy competition while strengthening the South African pork value chain as a whole.
Congratulations to all the winners and participants of the 28th SAMIC Carcass Competition. Your achievements are not only personal milestones but also a testament to the strength, resilience, and potential of the South African pork industry.
