Johan van der Walt (left) is the new chairman of the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO). He will be in the hot chair the next two years. Van der Walt is no newcomer to the industry and has left deep footprints over the years. He was, among others, a previous chairman of the organisation. He also headed numerous industry committees on pig health and participated in the development of various protocols that promote best practice farming methods for pork producers.
Stephen Butt is SAPPO’s new vice-chairman. He is part of the management team at Butt Farming, a 3 100-sow piggery near Mooi River in Kwazulu Natal. The Butts also farm with maize and have a commercial beef herd. Stephen is responsible for the finance, commercial, marketing, legal and risk functions. He did risk and business development analysis for various firms in South Africa and in Africa before he joined the family business in 2015.
