Stricter movement restrictions than those already imposed in Mthubatuba (Northern Natal) after the FMD outbreak outside the control zone in May this year, may affected the few pig farmers in the area negatively. Here are the latest movement protocols as issued by DALRRD. Compartments will be minimally affected but must have been visited by a vet recently.

An immediate temporary standstill of all cloven-hoofed animals, including livestock and game, was imposed in the District Municipalities of King Cetshwayo and Umkhanyakude, as well as the Local Municipalities of Nongoma, Ulundi and Pongola in the Zululand District Municipality after the outbreak.

The outbreak will delay the efforts to have South Africa’s FMD free zone re-instated.

Only trade restrictions that have been imposed so far are from Botswana.

DALRRD has undertaken to notify SAPPO immediately if there are further restrictions announced.
