US: Why did you Get into the Swine Industry?

Although less than 2% of Americans are directly employed by the agricultural industry, more than 22 million people are employed in an agriculture-related field. That means one in 12 American jobs is dependent upon agriculture in some way, says an article on Payscale.com.

The most recent USDA Census of Agriculture showed that for only the second time in the last century, the number of farmers under 35 years old increased. Still, the number of young farmers entering the field is nowhere near enough to replace the number exiting. Between 2007 and 2012, agriculture gained 2,384 farmers between ages 25 and 34 — and lost nearly 100,000 between 45 and 54.
