Private Storage Aid (PSA) support is expected to begin next month for Scottish pigmeat.

Scottish rural affairs secretary Mairi Gougeon told NFU Scotland’s autumn conference this week that the scheme would support private firms wanting to freeze pig carcasses.

This temporarily removes pigs from the market, cutting oversupply and helping to support prices. The pigmeat would then be re-introduced to the market at a time when prices were firm enough to withstand the extra supply.
