Germany’s economic stimulus package for 2020 and 2021 will allocate a total of 300 million euros for barn remodeling that promotes greater animal welfare.

Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Julia Klöckner, has worked to secure this funding which will be implemented through a federal program. The Federal Minister is now presenting the funding guidelines. As of today, sow farms in Germany can apply for a subsidy for the implementation of the new requirements for sow keeping – under the following conditions:

  • The maximum limit is 500,000 euros per farm and investment project.
  • The construction project must not involve an increase in the number of animals.
  • The project must be completed by the end of 2021.
  • Individual farm consulting services are also eligible to receive funding for the preparation of a conversion or replacement construction concept.
