Baynesfield Training Academy will be closed until further notice, following President Ramaphosa’s statement released on 15 March 2020 on the prohibition of gatherings as a means to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure the safety and health protections of both the BTA staff, farmers and all industry role-players, no activities (either training or farmers days) will be conducted at the academy.

Baynesfield Training Academy is a registered company with a registration number PBO. 930 037 806, registered under the Non-Profit Organisation Act 71 of 1997.
The academy offers a one week hands-on practical training programme in pig production which accommodates developing pig farmers, aspiring developing farmers, extension officials, Animal Health Technicians and any other individual interested in pig farming.
All the unit standards offered by the academy are in line with Agri-seta accreditation, within the National Certificate: Animal Production – NQF level 1.
The unit standards offered form part of the seven golden rules as part of the skills programme:
Understanding the basic marketing principles and market requirements.
Understanding the importance and basic principles of bio-security rules
Demonstrate the understanding of heat detection, mating and farrowing procedures
Understanding the basic principles of housing requirements
Demonstrate the understanding of feeding requirements at different production stages
Demonstrate the understanding of animal welfare code
Demonstrate the basic understanding of the basic disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment
After completion of the course, learners will be assessed according to Agri-seta qualifications and standards. Certificates of competency will be issued to learners.
